Many home owners do not think of putting much into bathroom lighting. When it comes to the living room and kitchen, though, it seems people can never spend enough. It is time to give the bathroom the proper focus it deserves; after all, it is the room you spend the first and last minutes of your day in.
It does not matter whether it is publicly visible or not. You see it, and that is what matters. Many bathrooms barely have enough light for every day grooming tasks. It is essential to recognize the importance of proper bathroom lighting, not just overhead lights, but light fixtures for the mirror and shower sections as well.
Mirror Bulbs
Vanity bathroom lighting, as it is sometimes called, should get top priority when you are remodeling your bathroom, because it is what helps you groom and beautify your face. Whether you are doing something as simple as shaving, or as complicated as putting on makeup for a fancy dinner, you need good strong bulbs right in front of your face to help you see properly. The mistake so many people make is in putting bulbs directly above the mirror. This casts shadows and makes it difficult to see your face in a proportional perspective. Cones, or vertical fixtures mounted on both sides of the mirrors, will help your eyesight better in this regard.
Because some vanity mirrors are not portrait, but landscape in nature, fixtures mounted on the sides become impractical. To solve this problem you could always mount them directly on the glass, but this is usually too costly and requires too much planning for the average household. If side fixtures are not possible, then you can resort to a light on top of the mirror. It should be at least two feet in length and contain at least three bulbs or one long yellow tube light. 150 watts is the preferred strength of task bulbs.
Ambient Lighting
You can accomplish this by placing a large pendant fixture in the center of the bathroom hanging from the ceiling. You can also be more creative and use string-lights around the room in creases designed to hide the bulbs while radiating the light to the rest of the room.
Shower Fixtures
Another important place to light properly is the shower. If you place more importance on where you clean dishes than where you clean yourself, then your priorities are not right. Placing strong lights above the shower, as well as parallel to your body will help you see more clearly while in the shower. Proper bathroom lighting in the shower is an important part of good personal hygiene.
